(712)837-4866.  Most programs are free of charge and at the Nature Center unless noted otherwise:

June 26

10 am – 2 pm

Canoe on the West Des Moines River.  We will start at the Graettinger access and canoe/kayak to Emmetsburg.  Call             712-837-4866 to register and reserve a canoe or bring your own. 

July 31

Bus Tour of Conservation Areas.  Watch for details.

August 7 & 8

Bioblitz.  24 hour inventory of animals and plants in the Dewey’s Pasture Complex.  Lost Island Nature Center is our weekend headquarters.  Public assists professional scientists to help inventory plants and animals in this 7,000 acre wildlife area.  Catch moths and dragonflies, watch for birds, dip for aquatic invertebrates, net fish, trap small mammals and list prairie, woodland and wetland plants. 

September 11 – 19

See us at the Clay County Fair Conservation Cabin.

October 25

6:30 pm

Halloween Hike.  Guides with lanterns will lead you down the trail to meet a variety of characters.  Call 712-837-4866 for a time slot.

November 8

5:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Basket Weaving Workshop.  Call 712-837-4866 to sign up.  Materials will be provided.

November 13

1 pm

Snowshoe making workshop at the Nature Center.  Watch for details.

December 11

1 pm

Cross Country Skiing on the trail at Lost Island Huston Park.  Call 712-837-4866 to reserve skis or bring your own.
